Young-Woo Suh received a Master's degree in Control and Instrumentation Engineering from Seoul National University in 1997 and a Ph.D. from Yonsei University in 2011. He joined the KBS Technology Research Institute in 1997 and led the development of new technologies for next-gen terrestrial broadcasting, including the development of terrestrial digital broadcasting transmission systems, XR broadcasting services for the PyeongChang ICT Olympics, and convergence mobile services. Since 2025, he has been leading the innovation of KBS's AI workflow through the AI Broadcast Innovation Division.

AI-based Studio Media Production Technology Trends

AI-based studio media production technology is driving a transformation in content creation methods through the automation and intelligence across the entire production process. This presentation examines the latest trends in AI production support technologies applied in diverse ways within studios. Furthermore, through case studies from KBS, it demonstrates how AI can contribute to production efficiency, global localization, and the expansion of co-productions.

Jung Han was a media specialist reporter at JTBC for over 20 years. He is now the CEO of K-EnterTech Hub (Kentertechhub), a global content and entertainment-tech news outlet engaged in international co-production and K-content distribution, including hosting the visit to Korea of a delegation from Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA). He is also an adjunct professor at Dongguk University, drawing on his expertise in media strategy, including FAST.

Minkuen Choi graduated from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Sogang University and earned an MFA in TV Production from the City University of New York and an MA in Screen Drama Direction from Goldsmiths, University of London. He is currently a doctoral student at the Graduate School of Metaverse Convergence at Sogang University. Since joining MBC as an entertainment producer in 2005, he has directed a wide range of entertainment programs over the past two decades. He also planned and directed the world’s first AI-directed entertainment program, Gone Producer, as well as the AI audition program A-IDOL. His current research explores new content paradigms that integrate advanced technologies such as AI, real-time editing, and digital humans.

Seong Yoo majored in Computer Science at Korea University in 1999 and earned a master’s degree in AI research from the same university’s graduate school in 2001. He joined SBS in 2003, leading the development of election broadcast graphics technology and driving innovation that helped establish SBS as a leader in election broadcasting. Since 2016, he has led OTT and AI project development, and in 2021 received the Grand Prize at the Radio and Broadcasting Technology Awards, the Prime Minister’s Award. He currently serves as Head of the AI Technology Research Lab at SBS, where he is driving SBS’s AX initiatives.

Mikyoung Lim graduated in 1997 with a degree in French Language from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. She began her career at SBS Productions, managing content sales to the Asian region. From 2009 to 2017, she handled business targeting Japan at SBS Contents Hub (currently Studio S) and she led local business operations of SBS content between 2018 and 2022 at PLAN K Entertainment, SBS Group's joint venture in Japan. Currently, she serves as director overseeing business for Japan, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan in the content business team at Studio S.

Sungmin Lee is an associate professor at Korea National Open University (KNOU). Previously, he researched cultural content industry policy at Korea Culture & Tourism Institute (KCTI). Currently, he is a policy subcommittee member of the Presidential Committee on Popular Culture Exchange and a board member for Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) and KCTI. His books include Artificial Intelligence and Content Business (2025) and Everything is Content (2025).

Masanori Wake has been involved in the content business since joining NTT Plala (currently NTT DOCOMO) in 2011. He has been responsible for planning new video streaming services, content acquisition for the IPTV platform “Hikari TV,” and co-production and investment projects. Since joining NTT DOCOMO Studio & Live in 2023, he has been leading new content planning and development, as well as co-production through strategic partnerships. He has produced a range of entertainment programs, including Mr. TROT Japan and the Japanese version of Stove League.

Sumin Park joined Busan MBC in 2022. In 2025, she served as a production director for What to eat today? Season 2, the first Korea-Japan co-produced drama by a regional broadcasting station. The drama went on to win the Grand Prize for Excellent International Broadcasting Co-Production in 2025. In 2026, she continues to build her expertise in international co-production through the production of What to eat today? Season 3.

Natsuko Adachi joined Aichi Television Broadcasting Co., Ltd. after graduating from Nagoya University in 2002. Since 2020, she has overseen Korean drama acquisition and scheduling, produced programs introducing Korean culture and content, and organized annual tours of Korea with the Korea Tourism Organization. She has also contributed to Korea-Japan cultural exchange through promoting traditional Japanese crafts as a project with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Since 2024, she has led a Korea-Japan co-produced drama What to eat today? with Busan MBC and is currently producing its third season.

Jin Woo Hwang is the CEO and Executive Producer of Something Special, Korea’s first-ever format-specialized production agency. Hwang was the former Head of Formats & Content Development in both the CJ ENM Media Content Division and the Media Solution Division. He is an award-winning global format expert, producing more than 40 prime time television shows; developing 112 original formats and has been a production consultant in 22 regions.
